The Foreign Language Departments of the University of Athens and the Department of Italian Language and Literature of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki have, beginning in the academic year 1998-1999, organised and implemented an Interuniversity Interdepartmental Postgraduate Program (I.I.P.P.S.) in Translation and Translation Theory. The Programme is funded by the European Union (EPEAEK) and the National Kapodistrian University of Athens (NKUA) in accordance with the stipulations of articles 10 to 12 (Law 2083/92). The executive management of the programme has been undertaken by the Department of French Language and Literature. The aim of the programme is to train specialized translators to meet the needs of Greece today. The programme also aims to provide the students with theoretical knowledge and introduce them to scholarship, research and methodology in the field of Translation and Translation Theory. Programme leads to the Postgraduate Diploma in Translation - Translation
Theory with specialization in one of the following languages : The selection of postgraduate students is made in accordance with the requirements set forth in paragraph 2a of article 12 (Law 2083/92), the special applications of the Rules of Procedure, and on the basis of entrance examinations. The length of the studies leading to the Postgradute Diploma is four (4) academic semesters. Courses are taught by faculty members of the departments concerned and by scholars from outside the university. Contributions are also made by distinguished scholars from research institutes in Greece together with specialists from the world of letters.
